Robert Joseph Walker, a British broadcaster and renown international sports commentator who was also a powerful voice behind the microphone during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has branded Uganda as a world-class African tourist destination.
Robert Walker, who constantly chanted “Nile Special,” a Ugandan beer product, during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, visited Uganda recently in a bid to boost the tourism sector.
“Massive thanks for showing me some of the incredible sights of this amazing country before we return to Kampala. Uganda deserves to be considered a world-class African tourist destination,” he stated.
While commentating during various international athletic championships, Robert Walker usually exhibits his love and passion for Uganda, evidently filled with excitement as he talks about the “pearl of Africa.”
Rob Walker recently, while visiting Bwindi Impenetrable National Park forest to do a gorilla trek, pulled the famous Kikiga dance when he visited the brilliant Women’s Project before returning to Kampala.
He also participated in the 11-kilometer run in the village around Murchison Falls with Joshua Cheptegei.
During a boat ride on the Nile, Rob Walker, using a hook, managed to catch a big Tilapia fish (catch and release), a move he described as “fantastically brilliant” to have touched Nile water. He later promised to catch Nile perch next time he returns to Uganda.
Rob Walker returned to London last Friday, but before departing Uganda, while at the British High Commission, he applauded the government for stabilizing the country and pledged to constantly popularize Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, as a leading tourism destination.
“I’ll keep promoting Uganda overseas. I will be back. This picture sums up the most incredible overseas trip I’ve ever had. I am truly humbled by the reception. This country is so amazing. memories of a lifetime. Ugandans—this Mzungu will return,” he said in his original commentary voice.
Robert Walker flew to Kapchorwa in the President’s official helicopter to visit his friend, the international athlete Star Cheptegei, among others.
He applauded President Museveni for his hospitality and the official Ugandan Athletics kit and vest handed to him by President Museveni. Walker pledged to visit Uganda sometime after the World Athletics Championships in August 2023.
“As a lifelong long-distance runner, this was a truly humbling gift.What an incredible trip! Thanks for having me,” said Walker.
He also thanked Patrick Bugingo, the managing director at Aloesha Organic Natural Health Products.
Rob Walker first fell in love with Uganda during the first trip in 2005 and then again in 2017.
