Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo has won the first gold medal during the ongoing 2023 World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst.

Kiplimo produced a powerful kick in the final lap to clinch the senior men’s 10 km race at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia.

The Olympic 10,000-meter bronze medalist timed 0:29:17 to clinch gold as Ethiopian Berihu Aregawi (0:29:26) and immediate former world cross country champion Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda (0:29:37) bagged silver and gold.

Commonwealth double champion Kiplimo now holds both the cross-country and half-marathon titles.

Kenya missed out on a podium spot as Geoffrey Kamworor was the country’s highest-placed athlete in the race, the 2015 and 2017 World Cross Country champion timing 0:29:37 in fourth.
