The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has discouraged pedestrians from using the Entebbe Expressway since its only gazetted for motorists usage and also to avoid being attacked by the suspected thugs.

This follows an attack on the Ugandan businessman identified as Edward Ntale, who narrowly escaped death after an attack by six thugs on Sunday, February 12, 2023, while walking along this road to catch up with a colleague who was waiting for him at the Busega Road toll.

“There were about six men who attempted to attack me. I feared and crossed to the middle of the road and tried to stop the moving vehicles for help,” Ntale said.

Ntale was rescued by the highway police patrol after he had hidden himself in the nearby swamp.

“That area at the start of the motorway at Busega is free to the public; that’s why you see that as soon as he started walking, some criminals took advantage of that and definitely attacked him. Therefore, we discourage pedestrians from walking on this road,” UNRA spokesperson Allan Ssempebwa said.

Ssempebwa assured the public that UNRA and the ministry of works and transport are working to ensure that more security patrol vehicles are deployed along the suspected hot spot areas on the expressway.

“The ministry of works and transport allowed the Uganda police to work with UNRA to have patrol vehicles of the Uganda Police work with us to beef up security along the Entebbe expressway,” he said.

He added that even when Ntale attempted to walk and was ambushed by the goons, the security at the toll gate moved in immediately and rescued him.
