MATOVU BASHIR MURDER: Police in Masaka Arrest Suspect

The territorial police in Masaka has today 18th Jan 2023, arrested a prime suspect in the murder of a 22 year old Matovu Bashir a resident of Kanyogoga village, Kimanya-Kabonera division in Masaka city.

According to acting Southern Police Spokesperson SP Twaha Kasirye, the suspect identified only as Miiro was arrested after Police sniffer dogs led them to his residence.

“We so far have one person in custody to help us with investigations. Our sniffer dogs helped us to arrest him,” SP Kasirye said.

Police received reports of a murder and when the police dog “Gringo” was introduced at the scene, it picked the human scent of the suspect, tracked for around one kilometre and led the officers to nearby rentals where the dog zeroed in on one Miiro.

According to the locals, the deceased was one of the vibrant residents who have been maintaining peace and security.

Police reports indicate that the deceased might have been strangled because the body did not have any wounds inflicted on him despite finding a panga at the crime scene.

The father of the deceased Mr Bruhan Muyunga has since asked the government to give him justice since his son always kept peace and had no grudge against anyone.

The murder of Matovu was reported yesterday 17th Jan 2023 and Police started immediate investigations.

SP Kasirye has stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing to enable police to identify and arrest other suspects behind the murder.

 

According to the territorial police, the body was taken to Masaka regional referral hospital for post-mortem before it is handed over to the relatives for burial.
