On January 16, during the function held at the Kampala City Hall, a total of seven ambulances were dispatched to all the city divisions with the aim of improving emergency medical services.

Dr. Daniel Okello, the KCCA Director of Public Health and Environment, said they prioritized the purchase of ambulances to improve emergency services in real time and to curb preventable deaths arising from gaps in emergency response.

Dr. Okello applauded the government for the support, adding that the ambulances included six types B for basic life support and one type C for advanced life support.

He explained that the procurement of all seven ambulances cost about Ugx1.6 billion.

“The seven ambulances were acquired using funds that the government had released to the KCCA COVID-19 Taskforce in 2021 as a supplementary budget,” he said.

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago handed over the ambulances to the division mayors and cautioned them to ensure effective maintenance.

He said that it’s a huge development to have these high-tech ambulances in our city, although the city needs over 70 ambulances to have a robust system.

The ambulances have been labeled with a KCCA toll-free number, 0800 299000, and they are available 24/7.
