🇺🇬 Ministry of Heath declares Uganda Ebola-free

📌During the ceremony to mark the end of Ebola outbreak in Uganda on Wednesday, Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng said Uganda is now free of the Ebola Virus transmission.“ Having registered no new Ebola case, despite sustained intense surveillance both at the epicentre districts and nationally, I now confirm that all transmission chains have been fully interrupted and take this opportunity to declare that the outbreak is over, and Uganda is now free of active Ebola transmission,” Dr.Aceng said. She said the outbreak was swiftly brought under control despite the absence of a proven vaccine against the viral strain in question.

🇺🇬 Exam malpractice culprits to get heavy penalties- UNEB

📌Uganda National Examination Board is set to pass judgement on schools and individuals  suspected of cheating in the recently concluded Primary Leaving Examination. Jennifer Kalule, the UNEB Spokesperson said that exams for 832839 pupils have been successfully marked but some which were marred by malpractises won’t be released. Kalule said that if found guilty, they will be given heavy punishments to deter the vice. 

🇺🇬 Owino Market traders want KCCA to allow them operate from Ssebaana Street

📌Traders from Owino market have requested Kampala City Authority to allow them sell their goods from Ssebaana Road street, citing that one street cannot accommodate all of them. KCCA had permitted the traders to operate from Nakivubo Street as the market gets a face lift, but the traders say it is not enough to accommodate all of them.

🇺🇬 NOTU suspends Usher Wilson Owere as Chairman General over misconduct

📌The Governing Council of National Organization of Trade Unions (NOTU) has suspended Usher Wilson Owere for disciplinary procedure regarding his conduct towards the union. Owere is accused of mismanagement, misrepresentation of the Union and failure to adhere to the rules of the governing Council. He has been replaced by Musa Okello as the Acting Chairman General NOTU until he is cleared by the Council.

🇺🇬 William Sekabembe is DFCU Bank’s new CEO after sudden resignation of Mathias Katamba

📌The DFCU Ltd Chairman Board of Directors, Jimmy Mugerwa on Tuesday announced William Sekabembe as its interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director. This follows Mathias Katamba’s resignation last week as the Bank’s CEO. 

🇺🇬 Uganda Land commission requests for more Budgetary allocation

📌The Uganda Land Commission has requested Parliament to allocate 137 billion shillings in the budget of 2023/2024. The money will be used to compensate those who got lease and settled on Government land. The commission was given only 17 billion of the 137 billion. 

🇺🇬 Bodaboda man murdered and dumped in River

📌Residents of Nsagu, Kajjansi Town Council woke up to a body of a man suspected to be a bodaboda rider. The body, dumped in River Namaya had not yet been identified by press time. Placed on a wooden surface, the body had cuts and wounds all over.

🇺🇬 RDC urges Kajjansi residents to be vigilant of landslides

📌The Entebbe Resident District Commissioner, Jackline Kankunda has warned residents living in the neighborhood of Nakigala stone mine in Kajjansi to be vigilant as they are exposed to a risk of landslides. This was during a meeting that was held recently with residents and other environmental officers from NEMA.

🇺🇬 PM Nabbanja launches Presidential Advisory Committee on Budget

📌The Prime Minister, Hon Robinah Nabbanja has launched the 2023/2024 Presidential Advisory Committee on Budget, comprised of 25 NRM MPs. The committee which is coordinated by the Government chief whip, Hon Hamson Obua is comprised of clusters of five members making various sub committees charged with responsibilities of advising the President on various budgetary issues.

🇺🇬 Entebbe NRM leaders raise Shs300M to support religious institutions

📌NRM leaders in Entebbe Municipality have started a Ugx300 Million drive to support religious institutions  complete some of their projects within Entebbe Municipality. Those to benefit include Bugonga Catholic Parish, Katabi, St. Joseph Catholic Sub Parish, Kiwafu Catholic Sub Parish, St Peters Church of Uganda, and St Marks Church Namate. 

🇺🇬 YUMBE: Woman raped and later burnt with Petrol

📌Driwaru Sharon, a resident of Woloka Village in Oriama sub county in Terego District was raped and burned using petrol by an unknown gang. Police says Driwaru was admitted at Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition but later died.

🇺🇬 SIRONKO: Leaders commission two classroom blocks in Bukulo Sub county

📌Sironko District leaders led by Livingstone Giruli, the LCV chairman on Wednesday commissioned two class room blocks at St Jude Primary School in Raraka village, Kilombe Parish in Bukulo sub-county. The class room blocks were funded by Government to a tune of Ugx42,000,000 in financial year 2020 to 2021.

🇺🇬 SHEEMA: Residents communally clean up Nyakayojo road

📌Residents of Nyakayojo Local Council, Kyabuharambo parish in Masheruka Sub County on Wednesday gathered hands and cleaned up Nyakayojo road in Masheruka Town Council. The Sheema North County Legislator, Hon Naomi Kibaju said that the road needs heavy culverts and murram since the area is waterlogged.

🌍 KENYA: 4.35 Million Kenyans need urgent food assistance

📌Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) Cabinet secretary, Rebecca Miano on Wednesday warned that the drought in Kenya is intensifying and that over 4 million people need food aid. “The period during which short rains are expected ended up posting poor rainfall right across most of the ASALs. This marked the fifth consecutive failed rain season,” she said, adding that at least 4.35 million Kenyans require immediate food assistance.

📌While presiding over the 58th Police Pass out Parade at the National Police College Embakasi A Campus on Wednesday, Kenyan President William Ruto  asked all Police recruits to take time and plant at least 30 trees each during their one-month break.

🌍 TANZANIA: President Suluhu urges youths to create jobs

📌While attending the summit of the “UVCCM Special Walk” to celebrate the 59th Anniversary of Zanzibar Revolution in Zanzibar, President Samia Suluhu Hassan told the youths in Tanzania to  invest in self-employment by exploiting the conducive environment provided by her Government. “What we are doing is to create a conducive environment for you to create jobs. Create jobs by using the existing environment”, said Samia.

🌍 ETHIOPIA: Amnesty International wants unconditional release of detained rights workers

📌Rights group Amnesty International has called on Ethiopian authorities to “immediately and unconditionally release” four human rights defenders detained for their work documenting forced evictions. Daniel Tesfaye, Bizuayehu Wendimu, Bereket Daniel and Nahom Hussien were arrested on Thursday while investigating cases of forced evictions in the capital Addis Ababa.

🌍 Church of England apologizes for its links to slavery, to compensate victimised communities

📌Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby on Tuesday apologized for the past links to slavery by the Church of England. The church noted that they are commited to engage in a wide-range process to compensate victimized communities. The Church organization has pledged a fund of 100 million pounds (113.1 million euros) over the next nine years for “a better and fairer future for all.”
