NASTY: Road Accidents Kill 35 People in 12 days

A total of 104 road accidents have been registered by the traffic police across the country in just 12 days.

According to the traffic report, the incidents occurred between December 30th, 2022, and January 1st, 2023.

ASP Faridah Nampima, the traffic police spokesperson, said 28 were fatal, 49 were serious, and 29 were minor.

Nampima said a total of 55 incidents occurred on major highways, while 49 took place within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Traffic Police data shows that motorcyclists were the highest victims, registering 10 deaths, followed by pedestrians with nine deaths.

Police statistics indicate that passengers in other vehicles who died were five; those in heavy minibuses were four; passengers on motorcycles were four; drivers who died were two; and one pedal cyclist also died.

ASP Nampima advised road users to avoid reckless and careless driving, as it was the main cause of the recent incidents.
