The National Unity Platform (NUP) party principal Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, and the Kampala City deputy Lord Mayor, Nyanjura Doreen, have been accused of masterminding the alleged poisoning of Kampala Woman Member of Parliament Shamim Malende.
A source within NUP headquarters confirmed that MP Malende was poisoned on November 11, 2022, by the agents of her political opponents while attending the Bizonto Comedy Show at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
“Our legal star, MP Malende, was poisoned by our enemies within, who are fighting her for the Kampala Woman MP position. Poisoning is a coward’s weapon because Shamim is going to recover and come back strong,” the source stated.
The source noted that Bobi Wine has been in contact with the current deputy mayor of Kampala and FDC iron lady Nyanjura Doreen, attempting to persuade her to join the National Unity Platform (NUP) party in order to replace MP Malende.
According to the source,  Bobi Wine prefers Nyanjura’s political approach of confrontation to Shamim’s diplomatic approach, an ability which he believes cannot fully eliminate the current regime from the Capital City.
The bad political blood between FDC Nyanjura and NUP Malende dates back to 2021 general elections where she backed Malende’s opponent, Stella Nyanzi. According to opposition political pundits, Nyanjura has now opted to contest against Malende come 2026 for Kampala Woman MP.
It should be noted that FDC Nyanjura and NUP Bobi Wine had previously been politically parallel until recently when the deal to have her contest against MP Malende was sealed, the source revealed.
This publication has learned that the FDC daring lady and a long-time political disciple of Dr. Besigye is also interested in one of the top political positions in the city, something that connects her to the Kampala Woman MP seat.
Malende was first admitted to Uganda Martyrs Hospital in Lubaga Division, Kampala, after she reportedly suffered a seizure while at her home in Kawempe Division on November 13, 2022. However, the condition worsened, and she was referred to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, for abdominal surgery.
Her family members have since accused the NUP leadership of blocking them from accessing her while she was undergoing treatment.
