๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Mumps Disease spreads across 20 districts countrywide
๐ŸŽ„Nearly 20 districts have registered an increase in cases of mumps, a viral illness that affects glands on the side of the face, Dr Richard Idro, an Assoc. Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health at Makerere University and a Consultant Pediatrician at Mulago Hospital has said. Dr Idro says the perception is that initial cases may have been between July and October 2022, as the numbers increased in late October, and by November and December, the disease had spread country-wide.

๐ŸŽ„The Boda-Boda Industry Uganda, an umbrella association of different boda-boda operators in Kampala is opposed to the move by Kampala Capital City Authority to pass the Shs300,000 for registration, training, and driving license. In an interview yesterday, Hamidu Ssengendo, the spokesperson of the association accused some of their colleagues of conniving with the leaders of Smart Boda-Boda and KCCA leadership to form a committee of 15 members who agreed to pass Shs300,000 to be paid by riders to ‘re-organize’ the industry. Ssengendo said the move will not be allowed without the consultation of other stakeholders.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Police Officer arrested for killing 16 year old in Omoro District
๐ŸŽ„The Officer-in-Charge of Opit Police Post in Omoro District, Sgt Christopher Okot Bruce has been arrested for shooting dead a reveler and injuring another. It is alleged that Okot shot and killed Emmanuel Olanya, 16, a pupil of Opit Primary School before injuring Simon Okema, 25, both of Opit Town Council. This followed a scuffle that occurred in a bar right opposite Corner House Night Club where revelers were merrymaking. He had intervened to calm the situation but met resistance prompting him to open fire. Innocent Okello, an eyewitness said Okot looked drunk whem he opened fire.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Three more ADF rebels killed in Ntoroko
๐ŸŽ„The Uganda Peopleโ€™s Defence Forces (UPDF) on Sunday night intercepted and killed three alleged Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels at the road junction of Kayaja and Kyapa although three others took off. In an interview on Monday, the commander of 8th Battalion, Lt Col Saul Nabimanya said the trio was killed as they emerged from their hideout to go steal food and property from deserted homes. Lt Col Nabimanya said a total of 26 rebels have been killed while 15 others were captured and 21 guns recovered.

๐ŸŽ„According to a report by the District Public Accounts Committee-(DPAC), Lwengo District has lost about Shs100 Million last year in illigitimate expenditures by heads of departments. The report pins heads of departments for conniving to misappropriate public funds as well as falsifying accountability for money meant for various projects under their dockets.

๐ŸŽ„The Uganda Medical Association has clarified that their concerns with the embattled Association President Dr Samuel Oledo are purely based on medical ethics and professionalism, refuting claims by Dr Oledo that the Doctors body has been inflitrated by members of the Opposition who are fighting President Museveni through the association. Dr Herbert Luswata, the Secretary General said that the members are free to join any political parties as long as they draw the line between their values and political activities.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ UWA to reintroduce white Rhinos in Ajai Wildlife Reserve
๐ŸŽ„Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has announced plans of reintroducing White Rhinos in Ajai Wildlife Reserve in Madi Okollo District. John Makombo, the Director in Charge of Conservation at Uganda Wildlife Authority, said that the reintroduction is part of the biodiversity enhancement program for Uganda, which seeks to promote tourism in the West Nile region. Makombo said they will not only introduce the White Rhinos but also other animal species like the Zebra and Giraffe among others.

๐ŸŽ„Government of Uganda has released money to the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) to facilitate the Uganda Cranes participation in the fourth coming Total Energy African National Championship 2022. The Federation used their official Twitter handle to announce that they received the funds from the Government.
โ€œFUFA has received from Government of Uganda UGX 2Bn as part of arrears to assist in preparations for Uganda Cranes squad ahead of the CHAN Finals in Algeria,โ€ the Federation announced.

๐ŸŽ„Rev John Awodi, the Secretary to the Diocese of Kampala has called for concerted efforts to address the problem of street children in Kampala. He was visiting and sharing Christmas with former street kids at Uganda Womenโ€™s Effort to save Orphans (UWESO) home in Masulita.
Rev Owodi said that the increasing number of children on the streets of Kampala from mainly Karamoja is a big concern and he condemned individuals who ferry these children to the streets to make for them money through begging. He called for concerted efforts to help address this problem.

๐ŸŽ„Police officers on patrol in Matuga shot and injured one suspect and arrested another after they staged an illegal roadblock along the Semuto-Matuga road. The Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said that the suspected robbers had staged a road barrier at Kavule valley on Monday night at around 3AM. Police officers on a motorized patro thenl found an illegal road block staged in between Kavule and Gombe trading centres along Matugga-Semuto road, with a tricycle (Tukutuku) parked at a distance of about 30 meters away.

๐ŸŽ„Police in Koboko District is investigating an incident in which three people drowned mamd died in an artificial water well known as shadoof on Monday December 26, at around midday at Grina Gardens Hotel located in Lipa cell, Mengo ward, south Division in Koboko Municipality. Josephine Angucia, the West Nile regional police spokesperson says Edward Zamali, 38, a resident of Olengaku village died be while attempting to pump water to the tank, while the other two, Bosco Candia and Robert Dramali, a watchman died while attempting to rescue their colleague.

๐ŸŽ„One person is dead and two others are nursing serious injuries after a vehicle attached to the Ministry of Local Governmemt lost control and fell off the bridge on Bubulo- Bududa road in Manafwa District on Monday. The vehicle was on Passa bridge when the driver lost control and plunged into the river at Namutembi cell, Manafwa Town Council. Residents who witnessed the accident blamed it on the narrowness and dilapidated nature of the bridge which has become a black spot with many accidents. The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be revealed by Police.

๐ŸŽ„Kenyan President William Ruto has appealed to his South Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir Mayardiit to de-escalate the conflict in Upper Nile and Jonglei states and deploy humanitarian efforts. President Ruto said the escalation of hostilities might ruin the 2018 peace agreement.
โ€œThe increasing insecurity, violence, displacement and unfolding humanitarian crisis are detrimental to the peace and stability of South Sudan and the East Africa region as a whole,โ€ Ruto said in a statement.

๐ŸŒ Ethiopia, Tigray officials discuss withdrawal of Eritrean forces
๐ŸŽ„A high-level Ethiopian Government delegation led by Parliament Speaker Tagesse Chaffo on Monday arrived in Tigray Capital Mekelle, in what Tigray leaders said was a milestone visit in the peace agreement meant to end the two-year war in the Horn of Africaโ€™s nation. After arriving in Mekelle, the Government delegation and Tigrayan leaders held discussions on a range of pressing issues related to humanitarian aid, basic services, commerce and the withdrawal of Eritrea and Amhara forces.
โ€œFruitful discussions were held and important understanding has been reached,โ€ said Getachew Reda, the advisor to the President of Tigray.

๐ŸŒ More than 20 million children face hunger in the Horn of Africa- UNICEF
๐ŸŽ„According to UNICEF, more than 20 million children are facing the threat of hunger, thirst and disease, up from 10 million in July, as climate change, conflict, global inflation and grain shortages devastate the region. Lieke van de Wiel, UNICEF Deputy Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa said children in the Horn of Africa still face the most severe drought in more than two generations and that two million children in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia are currently in need of emergency treatment for severe acute malnutrition, the deadliest form of hunger.

๐ŸŽ„Dutch King Willem-Alexander has welcomed the Governmentโ€™s apology for the Netherlandsโ€™ role in 250 years of slavery in his Christmas address, saying it was the start of a long journey. Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Monday followed King Willem-Alexander with an official apology for the Dutch Stateโ€™s involvement in slavery in its former colonies, calling it a crime against humanity.
โ€œNobody today bears responsibility for the inhumane acts that were inflicted on the lives of men, women and children,โ€ Willem-Alexander said from the palace of Huis ten Bosch in The Hague.
