Dr. Miguna Miguna, a Kenyan lawyer, has warned the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, to stop meddling in Kenyan politics.
In an interview with Citizen Television on November 17, 2022, Kyagulanyi said he admired how the August 20, 2022 Kenyan presidential election was conducted. He described it as peaceful, unlike the one in Uganda.
According to Dr. Miguna Miguna, Bobi Wine should stop comparing Kenyan politics with Uganda given the fact that both countries have not had similar kinds of politics since independence.
Kenya does not engage in the same type of politics as the Ugandan opposition; we have our people at heart, not selfish interests, which those Ugandan opposition politicians lack; they believe that by spreading rumors and speaking negatively about their country, they will gain popularity, according to lawyer Miguna.
He cautioned Kyagulanyi against making such utterances about the Kenyan election, claiming it was peaceful yet officials of the IEBC were assaulted, harassed, and some lost their lives.
“My advice to Kyagulanyi is that he should concentrate on Ugandan politics and desist from ranting around and telling lies about Kenyan politics when he knows nothing. Innocent Kenyans were abducted, threatened, and harassed, including IEBC officials. Stop this comparison between Kenya and Uganda, said Lawyer Miguna.
Douglas Kamaho, a senior Kenyan political analyst and good governance activist, argued that Bobi Wine lacks total recollection and full knowledge of Uganda’s politics, which had previously been dominated by the politics of identity (religion, tribe, and sectarianism) since independence.
Kamaho said that Uganda’s stability for the last 40 years has immensely rebuilt the rule of law, political freedom, nationalism, democracy, pan-Africanism, socioeconomic transformation, peace, security, and patriotism.
“This Bobi Wine thinks we are not aware of his tactics of cheap politics, where he calls on youth to storm streets and cause chaos, and when the police react by putting them in order, he claims they are being targeted,” Kamaho added.
Dr. Miguna Miguna is an advocate of the high court of Kenya, practices law as an attorney, and served as a senior adviser to former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga from 2009–2011.
He returned to Kenya recently after being cleared by President William Ruto. Dr. Miguna Miguna was deported following his role in the swearing-in of opposition Chief Raila Odinga as the “people’s president” in January 2018 after the disputed 2017 presidential elections.
