According to the Federation of the Uganda Medical Interns (FUMI) President Dr. Musa Lumumba, medical interns have suspended their sit-down strike which kicked off on November 6 2022. He says that the 9-day sit down strike has seen at least 90% of hospitals pay their respective interns.
𝐒H-ACU 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐬 Shs48𝐌 public toilet in Nyendo/Mukungwe Municipality
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (𝐒H-ACU) has launched investigations into the construction of a public toilet in Nyendo/Mukungwe Municipality in Masaka City that reportedly cost Shs48m. The four-stance water-borne toilet at the Masaka Liberation Square has developed cracks barely a month after it was commissioned.

Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) is conducting its annual lessons workshop today at Singo Peace Support Operations Training Center (PSO-TC) under the theme “Aligning Pre-Mission Training to Meet ATMIS Operational Requirements in ever Changing Environment.” Officiating at the opening of the 3-day workshop, the Commander Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga applauded PSO-TC for continuing the culture of the Lessons Learnt workshop since 2015.

Moses Musana, the Chairman for Always be Tolerant Organization (ABETO), a non-governmental organization has awarded Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Amongi Betty Ongom a Peace Award in recognition of her ‘exemplary and reconciliatory approach to performing national duties’. Musana says they have tracked her performance and observed that she employs a work method that promotes peace.

Government is set to introduce a comprehensive Land Acquisition Bill. This has been revealed by the State Minister for lands Persis Namuganza while opening the second National Land Forum 2022 which kicked off in Kampala yesterday, 16th November. Namuganza says this legislation seeks to enable Government acquire land for its projects without hindrance, She says some Government projects have stalled due to resistance.

Two armed thugs were captured by CCTV cameras robbing a man before escaping from the scene on a bodaboda. According to the viral video shared online, the victim can be seen chasing one of the thugs before being joined by the second thug. The two men go ahead and take the man’s belongings out of his pockets before boarding a bodaboda that had been waiting for them.

While addressing journalists, SP Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesman said that Deus Mugyenyi 56, resident of Nyabwiina II cell, Igambiro Parish, Katenga Sub-county was strangled to death in Mitooma District. Mugyenyi was found unconscious by the side of the road and died after being admitted at KIU Hospital Ishaka.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate has confirmed the death of 3-year-old Wilson Amanyire, a pupil at Mama Barbra Nursery School at Kajugangoma Church of Uganda. Amanyire was covered by soil after his parents’ house was carried away by mudslides during the Wednesday afternoon downpour. He was son to Shilah Atuhire and Edson Byaruhanga, residents of Kikondera Village in Bushura Parish, Kirima Sub County.

Uganda has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with French independent power producer HDF Energy to develop a green hydrogen power plant in Uganda. Energy Minister, Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu signed the MoU at the ongoing U.N Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27) in Sharm al-Sheikh, Egypt.

Police in Madi-Okollo district is investigating circumstances under which a FUSO Lorry overturned and claimed life of Ocokoru Baifa 85, a resident of Are village, Ewadri parish, Katrini Subcounty in Terego district. According to the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson Josephine Angucia, the incident happened yesterday along Arua Rhino camp road. She attributed the cause of accident to bad weather.

The General Council meeting of the National Organization of Trade Unions (NOTU) voted out the Chairman General, Wilson Owere over failure to manage three council meetings that had been organized to settle emerging leadership issues in NOTU. The Commissioner General of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), John R. Musinguzi has asked Parliament to consider the proposal of enhancing salaries of tax officials to mitigate corruption tendencies. Musinguzi was appearing before Parliament’s Finance Committee where the Authority had been summoned to present their budget performance for the 2022/2023 Financial Year.

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has unanimously passed the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment 2022 bill, which provides for a minimum of 30% of its seats and one third of all local council seats to be held by women. The measure has been submitted to the President, Julius Maada Bio, for ratification.

The Ukrainian Parliament on Wednesday approved a new extension of martial law and the mobilization of the Armed Forces, until February 2023. This would mark the first anniversary of the military offensive launched by Russia this year. The proposal has gone ahead by a large majority and implies that the two measures will be in force until 19th February 2023.

The US on Wednesday sanctioned 6 senior members of Iranian state-run media, accusing them of broadcasting forced confessions to undermine the protests roiling Iran. A group of Senegalese judges can now place some convicts or defendants on electronic bracelets rather than in prison, as the government inaugurated the center in Dakar to monitor them. Those convicted of rape, pedophilia, and drug trafficking are excluded from the scope. The system can track an individual under an electronic bracelet anywhere in the world within radius of a meter.

14 opposition activists in Zimbabwe who were arrested after clashes with ruling party supporters in June were released on bail by the courts. They were arrested along with opposition MP Job Sikhala and another elected official Godfrey Sithole after giving a speech at the funeral of opposition member Moreblessing Ali, whose mutilated body was found in a well a day earlier.
