Regional Referral Hospitals Receive CT Scanners

The permanent secretary for the Ministry of Health Dr. Diana Atwine has today revealed that each Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda will receive a CT scanner to improve in the diagnostic services.

“In efforts to improve diagnostic services in the country, each regional referral hospital is to receive a CT scanner,” Dr. Atwine said.

While handing over the CT scanner for Jinja regional referral hospital, Dr. Atwine stated that five (5) other referral hospitals had received the scanners.

“Five other regional referral hospitals have already the CT scanners and these include Entebbe, Moroto, Hoima, Fort portal and Mbale. Jinja is the sixth recipient,” she stated.

She added that delivery to Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale, Gulu, Lira and Arua regional referral hospitals is also ongoing.

“For Soroti the machine will be delivered as soon as the site is completed and unfortunately the   one for Mubenda has not been delivered because of the current Ebola lockdown in the district,” she said.

Computerized Tomography Scanners Or CT scanners produce detailed images of many structures inside the body for diagnosis of conditions that is damaged bones, cancers, heart, lungs and liver diseases, and tumors among others.

There has been a public outcry over the limited diagnostic services in the different hospital in the country.

However, this government project is directed at enhancing health service delivery in all hospitals in Uganda and according to health officials it has been projected that millions of Ugandans will benefit from this project.
