Traffic police Spokesperson Faridah Nampiima during a security presser held today 14th November 2022, revealed that police will arrest those operating drones as Public Service Vehicle (PSV) in different parts of the country. The traffic police spokesperson stated that the arrests will be made on those that don’t have the required license to engage in the business.

“All those operating drones as PSV taxi especially along Entebbe road and Jinja road yet your vans don’t have the required license to do that and also your vehicles don’t have a checked band to operate as taxis should stop it immediately,” ASP Nampiima said.

However, traffic police has given unlicensed drone drivers a grace period of two days to be able to clear with the Ministry of Transport and Works stating that failure to comply will lead to prosecution.

“You have been given only two days and with effect from Wednesday 16th November 2022, we are starting our operations and all those who will be arrested during this operation will be taken to court. None of them will be issued EPS tickets,” she said.

ASP Nampiima also revealed that the operation is directed at netting taxi drivers and conductors who conspire to rob innocent passengers using unlicensed drone vehicles mostly in the Kampala metropolitan area.

“We urge all those who want to operate as taxis to comply with the requirements by going to the ministry of transport and works, register and license your vans to operate as PSVS taxi,” Nampiima said.

She commended those who have complied to the rules so far and urged the rest to do the same in order to avoid inconveniences.
