Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed Ugandan Robert Kateera as the leader of the coveted Canadian Prime Minister’s Youth Council. Police in Kyotera District are investigating circumstances under which a seven –year- old pupil was kidnapped by unknown people on Sunday evening. Ms Sarah Nabaggala, a nurse at Kamwaanyi HC III in Kyotera Town Council said that as she was searching for her missing son yesterday, she received a message on her mobile phone asking for a ransom of Shs15m if she wanted her son back.

Tororo District Woman Representative, Hon. Sarah Opendi will introduce the Alcohol Control Bill that seeks to regulate excessive alcohol intake. The Private Member’s Bill seeks to repeal the current legislation that includes, the Liquor Act, the Portable Spirit Act, and the Enguli (Manufacturing and Licensing) Act, all enacted in the 1960s which have become obsolete to address contemporary challenges of excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks. Opendi is concerned that the harmful use of alcoholic drinks causes a high burden of disease and has significant social and economic consequences like domestic violence.

Godfrey Nyakahuma the Kabale Resident District commissioner yesterday threatened to arrest whoever married a school child within the district. RDC Nyakahuma made the statement while speaking to the congregation at Rukore Polytechnic School during their thanksgiving that was held at school premises in Kabale District. Nyakahuma assured the public that the authorities are going to make follow-up on the matter of early marriages and arrest whoever is involved in the act.

President Yoweri Museveni was awarded an honorary Ph.D. in recognition of his contribution to building peace in Africa. President Museveni was honored for his role in regional peace building, especially in Somalia, and South Sudan, and for conducting peace talks between the M23 rebels and the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).The honorary doctorate was given to him by the Harvest Christian University of Seattle Washington, US, through the International Global Chaplain Conacce.
Government to spend Shs100bn while operating satellite work
The Government intends to spend a total of Shs104.5 billion to develop, launch and operationalize two satellites including the one launched on Monday. A draft indicates that the budget is for the National Innovation Technology Development and Transfer Program implementation action plan for 2020 -2025. According government’s draft budget, Shs15.5 billion will be spent on the establishment and operationalization of the space science and euronatrics technology agency, Shs73.4 billion will be spent on the development and launch of two satellites and the remaining Shs15.6 billion will be used to establish a satellite grand station in Mpoma – Mukono.

Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja emphasized the importance of coming up with a clear road map to ensure sustainable funding of the HIV response in the country. Presiding over the opening of the National HIV /AIDS symposium in Kampala, PM Nabbanja said that discussions locally have commenced and reduced donor resilience. Meanwhile, the Uganda AIDS Commission in parternership with the Ministry of Health is set to introduce interventions in the checking of HIV spread in the country.

Kenya Airways pilots are expected to resume their duties today, November 9, 2022 after the association leadership called off the strike on Tuesday. The message to the pilots who lay down their tools on Saturday came after the Employment and Labor Relations Court issued orders requiring pilots to resume work, after a four-day protest against alleged intimation, victimization and violation of remuneration. The court also directed the company leadership not to victimize or take any disciplinary action against KALPA members.

Former Comorian President Ahmed Abdallah Sambi will be tried on charges of high treason, after spending four years in detention over corruption allegations.
The former head of state was originally prosecuted for embezzlement of public funds, corruption, forgery and use of forgeries in the scandal known as economic citizenship, which involved the sale of Comorian passports to stateless people from the Gulf States.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the country has conveyed its request for Sweden to work towards countering terrorism threats before clearing the country’s application to join NATO.
“We understand their security concerns, and we want Sweden to respond to ours,” Erdogan said after meeting Sweden’s Prime Minister at the presidential palace in Ankara on Tuesday.
