24-year-old Gang Leader Charged with 13 Counts of Aggravated Robbery

Mbaziira Ronald, alias Magezi, a 24-year-old resident of Ngobe Bunamwaya, has been arrested in connection with 13 cases of aggravated robbery by the Uganda Police in coordination with the Directorate of Crime Intelligence, Kampala Metropolitan Police, and Greater Masaka.

According to SCP Enanga Fred, the Uganda Police Spokesperson, Mbaziira is a notorious gang leader connected to 8 cases within the Kampala area and an additional 5 cases in the Greater Masaka area.

Enanga revealed that Mbaziira had been arrested with other two gang members before; however, he escaped while being transported for medical examination.

“Before his re-arrest on July 31, 2023, from Modern Guest House in Kabawo Zone, Mutundwe Parish in Rubaga Division, the suspect, together with Ssendaula Jamil, aka younger, and Akandwanaho Fahad, aka Paul, were intercepted in a motor vehicle registration number UBJ 267T, along Namasole Road, while on a robbery mission. He escaped while being transported for medical examination at Katwe CPS”, Enanga said.

Police say the notorious group used pangas and iron bars and has been linked to the home invasion attack and robbery of money, guns from security guards, and televisions.

The gang was also behind the attack on Qui Feng, a 34-year-old year old, Director of China State Construction Company, in Nyanama Rubaga Division, where they robbed 3 mobile phones and USD 300; they also admitted to having attacked and robbed Ugx 500,000 and 6 mobile phones from the home of John Garanga, a South Sudanese national, as well as the attack and robbery on Kobusinge Diana and Nalukwago Yudaya, in Lufuka Zone, from whom they robbed Ugx 7.8M, USD 500, and 7 mobile phones.

Police further stated that the gang leader then shifted base to Masaka City, where they robbed other 5 people.

“Gang leader relocated to Nyendo-Mukungwe division in Masaka City, where he participated in 5 other aggravated robberies, including a SAR gun belonging to SEK Security Company and a pistol that was recovered in a toilet in Mugongo Zone, Kyengera Town Council, where he was renting and other exhibits’’, Enanga said.

According to Police, the arrest of notorious gang leader Mbaziira demonstrates their resolve and commitment to rid violent criminals from the community and that communities should be confident that they are doing everything to dismantle such kinds of violent and deadly criminal gangs.
