Leaders from Tooro Sub-region on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution to endorse President Yoweri Museveni as their sole candidate for the NRM chairperson seat and as their 2021 presidential candidate.
The resolution was passed as President Museveni concluded a four-hour session on wealth creation and poverty eradication mechanisms which he exhaustively discussed with the over 1,000 leaders at Kalya Courts Hotel in Fort Portal Municipality.
The President had rallied leaders from Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Kyegegwa, Bunyangabu and Kamwenge districts whom he urged to empower their communities to fight against household poverty.
Reading the endorsement, Kamwenge District Chairman, Aggrey Natuhamya said they supported the resolutions of the NRM Central Executive Committee and the NRM Parliamentary Caucus to front President Museveni in 2021 and beyond.
Seconded by all the other four district chairpersons present, the resolution said the decision was based on the fact that President Museveni was time tested, experienced and had the vision to take the country forward. Also present were elected leaders from LC1 to district councils.
President Museveni responded that he was happy that the NRM supporters were speaking in unison which would build cohesion and strengthen the party.
He thanked them for putting trust in him and endorsing him to continue with the mantle of taking the party and the country forward. He said he was committed to overseeing Uganda’s transformation.
The President has embarked on a nation wide campaign to enlighten leaders and citizens on the fight against household poverty as the Government continues to support them and avail various measures to create wealth.
He urged NRM cadres to be ambassadors of poverty alleviation.
“As Movement cadres, be disciples of poverty alleviation and ensure that majority, if not all Ugandans enter the money economy. Having a big poor population is dangerous for you as a leader, for the family and for Uganda and could result into a national crisis,” he urged.
He advised them to guide their communities on what they should do to generate income depending on the resources at their disposal especially land because majority of Ugandans are employed and are economically dependent on agriculture.
