Uganda Police, with the help of a team from the Flying Squad Unit, conducted an operation in areas of Kampala Metropolitan targeting motor vehicle thieves.

SCP Namutebi Hadijah, the Uganda Police’s Chief Political Commissar, said in a statement made on November 22, 2023, that the operation commenced on October 26, 2023, where Kisule Juma was arrested to help in the investigation and recovery.

“Upon interrogation, he admitted to being part of the racket that steals and sells motor vehicles and revealed his accomplices, who were later arrested from Wobulenzi in Luwero District,” Namutebi said.

The accomplices were identified as Godfrey Kavuma, Henry Sekindu Kakuru, and Sepriano Mulinda.

According to Namutebi, during the interrogation, Kavuma and Senkindu Henry admitted to the offences of stealing and selling motor vehicles and also disclosed the identities of the sellers as well as the locations.

Namutebi said that police were escorted by Kavuma Godfrey to the districts of Nakasongola and Masaka, where the owners of several stolen automobiles were found.

She identified the recovered motor vehicles from the gang in Ganda, Nansana, as UAR 054S Ipsum Silver in colour and UAN 397U Ipsum Pearl White.

The other vehicles recovered include the UBA 306F Noah pearl blue recovered from Kavuma Muhammed in Nakasongola, UAP 295T Noah white in colour recovered from Kasubi in a parking yard, UAS 293V recovered from Lukwago Amisi in Nyendo-Masaka, the UAY 073X Sienta white in colour recovered from Kisule Musa in Nyendo-Masaka, UAH 131L Corona white in colour recovered from Kayiwa in Nyendo-Masaka, the UA UAV 360B Premio white in colour, UAP 898U Ipsum, and UAQ 508D Rav4.

She added that the group stole the above-mentioned cars, which they then sold to gullible buyers.

“The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on allegations of automobile theft, while the recovered items are with us at Flying Squad Headquarters, Kireka,” she said.

According to authorities, arrests and recoveries are still being made in order to combat motor vehicle theft across the country.
