Β πŸ“ŒThe Kasese District Principal Human Resource Officer, Mr. Samson Bihanikire and the former Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Amis Masereka Asuman have been arrested on charges of abuse of office and causing financial loss to the Government. The State House Anti- Corruption Unit together with police arrested them and the duo were arraigned before the Anti Corruption Court in Kololo, Kampala. The duo are accused of irregularly reinstating six teachers who resigned from the teaching service and joined politics for 10 years but were reinstated into service, deployed in different schools and have been earning salary/ causing Government financial loss of over Shillings 20 Million.Β 

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ Man stabbed to death during Arsenal and Manchester City fan fracas

πŸ“Œ Police in Katwe have arrested two football fans for stabbing to death a man who attempted to stop their argument following the loss of Arsenal to Manchester City last week. The deceased, Allan Kakumba, 25, a resident of Makindye Sabagabo, Kampala. Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson, said that the deceased attempted to intervene in the fight that had broken out between one Eddie Semakula and David Abigaba who had been arguing after the match between Arsenal and Manchester City on January 29.

β€œThe two suspects who were arguing, one is anΒ  Arsenal fan and another one supports Manchester City,” Owoyesigire said.Β 

Owoyesigire revealed that preliminary investigations indicate that Eddie Semakula stabbed Kakumba below the stomach and he fell down. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mulago Hospital. The two suspects are in Police custody at Katwe Police Station awaiting Court charges.

πŸ“Œ Experts have said it is appalling that Ugandans have ignored the power of using mobile phones to be able to make money online. Speaking during a workshop by players in the creative sector including artists, poets, writers, filmmakers, photographers and fashion designers among others, Aidah Agwang, a communications consultant and a content creator said many Ugandans have not taken phones as a great asset at their disposal to make money.

β€œSocial Media is no longer something to be ignored but one to get serious about. It should not be only about gossip but Ugandans can make use of it to make some good money. We have very few people who have phones and are using it for making money,”Β  she said.

Β Agwang cited an example of Masaka Kids who have over three million subscribers and in 2022 earned over shs5 billion from YouTube.

πŸ“Œ Patrick Kaweesi, a second-year student of Bachelor of Information Technology at Kabale University has been named first Uganda’s Microsoft Learn ambassador. According to the Kabale University website, Kaweesi promised to use the opportunity to pass the knowledge he will acquire to the students in his faculty and beyond. The Microsoft Learn student ambassador runs in 102 countries across the world and aims at enabling students who want to use technology to solve real-world problems with like-minded peers.Β  Microsoft Learn student ambassador is a program that helps students develop their technical skills and prepare for careers in the tech industry.

πŸ“Œ The Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Director of CCBU, Kirunda Magoola, on Tuesday said that 10,000 youths in 10 higher education institutions will be enrolled in a digital coaching and mentorship program called Boundless Minds in partnership with Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU). The project under the theme β€œLetter to My 20-year-old Self” willΒ  organise 10 in-person career clinics at universities, mentor 100 students where 60% are female from different institutions who will be recruited as peer mentors to the broader group of 10,000 students.

πŸ“ŒThere is tension in Bumilakhantsa village, Butsemayi parish, Bubutu Sub County in Namisindwa District, after a mother survived being murdered by her own biological sons. The two sons identified as Stephen Siwunwa, 46 and James Mayeku, 36 armed with pangas attacked their own mother Grace Musoyo at her house but she escaped by jumping through the window. Dadewo Walwuba, a resident, says the two accuse their mother of keeping wild cats that cry during the night and bewitching them from siring kids. The duo slashed down all her crops like cassava, bananas, and coffee. Fredrick Bango, the Namisindwa District Resident District Commissioner has confirmed the incident and that they are investigating the matter before arresting the suspects.

πŸ“ŒShock engulfed residents of Shokoi village, Bukimwanga parish, Bukhabusi Sub County in Namisindwa District when one Ivan Wambwa murdered his father for refusing to give him land. According to David Matenge, the LCIII chairperson of Bukhabusi Sub County, the deceased is identified as Michael Wambwa, aged 53. β€œWambwa attacked his father at night with a panga in his house accusing him of not giving him land to sell”, said Matenge.Β

🌍 Rwanda marks Heroes Day

πŸ“ŒRwandans, and friends of Rwanda today Wednesday, February 1, mark Heroes Day celebrations,Β  a day on which the country pays tribute to its nationals who demonstrated the highest values of patriotism and sacrifice for the well-being of the country and its citizens. The day will feature activities including discussions under the theme β€œOur heroism, our dignity”, according to the Chancellery for Heroes, National Orders and Decorations of Honor (CHENO). According to CHENO, President Paul Kagame is presiding over the celebrations by laying a wreath at the National Heroes’ Mausoleum, after which several visits will be paid to families who lost their loved ones.

πŸ“ŒRwanda’s Utility Regulatory Authority (RURA) has announced the cut of fuel prices, revealed the RURA Executive Director, Patrick Emile Baganizi. According to the letter addressed to the public, β€œstarting from 02 February 2023, the revised fuel prices are as follows;Β  minimum retail gasoline price is set atΒ  1,544 Frw/L andΒ  retail price for diesel is set at 1562 Frw/L”. He indicated that the fuel prices are cut downwards based on the adjustments of the international market of petroleum products.

🌍 Kenyatta calls urgent meeting as DRC situation worsens

πŸ“ŒUhuru Kenyatta, Kenya’s former president and facilitator of the East African Community-led peace process for DRC, on Tuesday, January 31, convened an urgent meeting with the bloc’s technical team to review the worsening situation in the country’s east.

πŸ“ŒSecurity chiefs from Eastern Africa are meeting in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu to deliberate on joint military operations against the Al-Shabab militant Islamist group. Heads of states from the region will meet on Wednesday to discuss a coordinated military offensive against the Al-Qaeda affiliated group, which has waged an insurgency against Somalia’s federal government over the past decade and a half. The meeting of security chiefs comes in the wake of significant gains made by Somali government troops in the fight against al-Shabab. 🌍 Denounce economic Imperialism on DRC- Pope Francis

πŸ“ŒPope Francis on Tuesday denounced what he termed β€œeconomic colonialism” that he said has plundered the resources of the mineral-rich and conflict-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. In a speech at the presidential palace, the Pope was applauded as he touched on the country’s history of foreign domination, saying that political exploitation gave way to an economic colonialism that was equally enslaving in the DRC.

Β β€œAs a result, this country, massively plundered, has not benefited adequately from its immense resources,” he told an audience of Congolese politicians and other dignitaries in Italian.

🌍 Biden, Zelenskyy to hold  Weapons Talks

πŸ“ŒUS President Joe Biden said Tuesday that he will be discussing Ukraine’s latest requests for advanced weaponry to defend against Russia with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.Β 

β€œWe’re going to talk,” Biden told reporters, speaking the morning after he answered with an emphatic β€œno” when asked at the White House whether he favoured sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. The United States is by far the biggest supplier of weapons to Ukraine, where the Russian invasion is now approaching a one-year mark.
