🇺🇬 We shall stamp out corruption- President Museveni
📌President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assured Ugandans that corruption in all Government agencies and ministries will be stamped out, citing that NRM is not a party of a tribe or religion but a national political party. The President made the remarks while presiding over the 37th National Liberation Day Celebrations at Kakeeka grounds in Kakumiro Town Council on Thursday January 26, 2023.
“I congratulate some government agencies. I have seen people who had stolen PDM and Emyooga money being arrested or being forced to refund the money. — A party like the NRM is not a party of a tribe or religion, it’s a national political party. That’s why we win in the first round; we have never gone for the second round,” the President said.

🇺🇬 President Museveni hails Uganda’s tremendous strides towards ICT
📌 H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday hailed Uganda for making great strides in the Information and Communication Technology sector that has seen a big number of Radio & Television stations being licenced, a steady increase in the number of internet users and making sure that at least each house has a mobile phone. The President was presiding over the 37th National Liberation Day Celebrations at Kakeeka grounds in Kakumiro Town Council on Thursday January 26, 2023.

🇺🇬 UNEB to release PLE results on Friday
📌 Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) in a tweet shared on its official Twitter account, has confirmed Friday, January 27, 2023 as the date the Minister of Education, Hon Janet Museveni will release last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results at State House Nakasero.

🇺🇬 Deputy Speaker appoints seven-member committee to investigate NSSF
📌The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa has named a seven-member select committee that will probe operations of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) as well as alleged corruption within 30 days. The committee headed by Mbarara City legislator, Mwine Mpaka comprises of Mbale MP Karim Masaba, PWDs representative Laura Kanushu, Kyotera District Woman MP Fortunate Natongo, Rwampara County MP Kankunda, Entebbe Municipality MP Michael Kakembo and workers MP Charles Bakabulindi.

🇺🇬 Workers Compensation Act to be amended
📌The Government has begun the process of amending the law on workers’ compensation in a bid to address the challenges faced by Uganda’s labor force across different sectors. On Thursday January 25, State Minister for Labor, Employment and Industrial Relations, Charles Okello Engola says the proposed reforms arise from the need to address gaps and delays that affect the implementation of the current law.

🇺🇬 Deputy Speaker Tayebwa orders probe into homosexuality in schools
📌The Deputy Speaker Tayebwa on Wednesday appointed the Committee on Education to expeditiously carry out investigations into same-sex vices in schools. Tayebwa said the report should be given urgent priority, noting that many schools have become recruitment centers. This follows a directive given on the matter by Speaker Anita Among on Wednesday, 18 January 2023.

🇺🇬 IGG applauds Ugandans for exposing fraud at Entebbe Airport
📌The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Beti Kamya while addressing journalists at the IGG head offices on Wednesday, applauded members of the public who shared videos on social media that revealed incidents of fraud at Entebbe International Airport. Kamya encouraged citizens to step up and publicize incidents of fraud, especially those involving public servants.
“Don’t accept crap from public servants anymore. Ugandans are tired of paying for public services..Say no to corruption,” Kamya said.

🇺🇬 Education Ministry launches e- learning teacher education platform
📌Ministry of Education and Sports in partnership with MTN Uganda and Continuum Financial Group on Thursday launched an E- learning platform called ULEARN at Uganda Institute of Communication Technology the National Innovation Hub. The State Minister for Higher Education, Dr John C. Muyingo said that the self-paced e-learning platform for teachers and educators countrywide, can be accessed at zero data costs via the MTN network.

🇺🇬 Hon Oboth says UPDF officers involved in extortion during recruitment exercise arrested
📌The Minister of State for Defense and Internal Affairs, Hon. Marksons Oboth on Wednesday said that officers of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) that were involved in extortion during the recent recruitment exercise have been apprehended. He was responding to a report in the Committee on Defense and Internal Affairs on the alleged unfair and discriminatory recruitment by the UPDF.

🇺🇬 Nigeria’s AFEX expands commodity exchange business to Uganda
📌After expanding its commodities exchange business in Kenya in June last year, Nigeria’s AFEX is now expanding to Uganda. According to Abdul Hafeez Odusanya, Managing Director, AFEX Uganda, the firm aims to reach 10,000 farmers and aggregate 15,000 metric tons of commodities. AFEX Uganda has established warehouses in Bulambuli, Kapchorwa and Lira districts.

🇺🇬 LYANTONDE: Police arrests 3 over village chairperson murder
📌Police in Lyantonde District on Thursday arrested three people for alleged involvement in the murder of Yosam Turyamuhika, the Kiyinda village chairperson in Kaliiro sub county. Lyantonde District Police Commander (DPC) Scovia Birungi said suspects in custody include Padson Ayinebyona, Magezi Kifa, and Sikyomu Bazonoona who targeted the deceased’s money after he had sold his land.

📌The School teams that will take part in this year’s edition of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations (USSSA) Elite Schools championship have arrived at the Mbarara High School in Mbarara City. Sacred Heart Girls Gulu football team coach, Nasan Amone says all is set. The top competitors are basketball 3×3 champions Buddo SS.

📌Hoima District will on Friday train lower local Government structures in implementing the rolling out of Parish Revolving Fund (PRF) at Hoima Youth Centre. In a letter dated January 23, the CAO Hoima District said the planning and training meeting will be presided over by Hoima Resident District Commissioner. The meeting will be attended by heads of departments, section heads in Commercial services, Community Based Services, Planning Unit, Sub County Chiefs/ Town Clerks, Sub County CDOs and Agricultural Extension Workers.

 🌍 KENYA: UK Visa to be processed in three weeks
📌 The United Kingdom High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott on Wednesday said that Kenyans applying for a visa to the United Kingdom will now wait three weeks under the new adjustments on visa processing duration. UK has resolved backlog issues which caused delays in visa processing since July last year, in the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Six months ago, I promised we would get our visa service for Kenyans travelling to the UK back on track. I’m pleased we’re now at normal customer service standards.” Marriott said.

🌍 KENYA: Raila accuses President Ruto of plotting to plant allies into IEBC for 2027 polls
📌Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday asked his supporters to resist what he claims as an attempt by President William Ruto to constitute an electoral commission that will favor his re-election bid in 2027. Odinga opposed the IEBC Amendment Act 2022 on the formation of a Selection Panel that will recruit new IEBC commissioners to replace former Chairman Wafula Chebukati and his team.

🌍 DRC: 17 wounded in bomb blast
📌At least 17 people were wounded Wednesday when a bomb exploded in Macampagne market in Beni in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, officials said, as the region continues to be plagued by insecurity.
“At least 17 people were wounded and were taken to medical facilities,” said Tharcisse Katembo, head of the blue-collar district.

🌍 MALAWI: Cholera death toll passes 1,000 as outbreak spreads
📌The Malawi Health Minister Khumbize Chiponda on Wednesday said that the death toll from a Cholera outbreak in the country has passed 1,000 while cases have risen to 30,621, the highest on record in the country. Chiponda added that most of the deaths occurred in the two main cities of Lilongwe and Blantyre where children went back to classes after schools had delayed opening in a bid to contain the spread.
“The cumulative confirmed cases and deaths since the onset of the outbreak is 30,621 and 1,002, respectively with a case fatality rate at 3.27%,” Chiponda said.

🌍 SOUTH AFRICA: Opposition activists protest against energy crisis
📌Hundreds of opposition activists from Democratic Alliance took to the streets of Johannesburg in South Africa on Wednesday January 25 to demonstrate against the energy crisis causing record power cuts in the country. The activists marched towards the headquarters of the ruling ANC party protesting scheduled blackouts after state-owned energy firm Eskom failing to keep pace with the national demands.
“Enough is enough. We want our power back”, said web developer Justin van Leeuwen.
