The Executive Director of UNAIDS, Winnie Byanyima, a wife to Col (Rtd.) Dr. Kiiza Besigye, has confirmed that Besigye was found with two loaded pistols in a hotel room in Nairobi, Kenya.
Byanyima, while appearing before Citizen Television Kenya, explained that it is true Besigye, alongside his longtime friend Hajji Obed Lutale Kamulegeya, was found with two pistols loaded with bullets and a box full of fake money at Riverside Apartment Hotel, Nairobi.
In a bid to exonerate her husband, Byanyima, on her X handle, narrated that Besigye has always fundraised for political mobilization work for his party and that he has always mobilized for support, both local and international.
“Dr. Besigye always fundraises for political mobilization work by his party. Parties are democratic institutions and have local support and foreign relations,” Byanyima stated.
Byanyima, while seeking public sympathy, said that this is not the first time Besigye has interacted with foreign funders and people who intend to cause legitimate governments to fall by the use of unconstitutional means in Africa.
Additionally, following the widely spread audio on different social media platforms, it clearly reveals how Besigye was negotiating for cash, weapons, and other logistical support with yet unidentified men.
In the audio, the negotiator said, “You know my people want to see something happening before holding any meeting with them in Dubai. They want to see the fake money in circulation, and they want to know how you’re going to put it in circulation.”
In response, Besigye said, “I will use the fake money to procure local produce in rural areas. By so doing, they bring genuine produce products in exchange for fake money currency.”
However, from Byanyima’s interviews and the circulating audio recordings, it clearly indicates several facts, including Besigye being in possession of guns while in a hotel room in Nairobi, and a huge box full of fake money with his yet-to-be-identified foreign accomplices, who were planning to oust the legitimate government under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, while disguising as carrying out party activities.
