UPDF’s Wazalendo SACCO Lauded for Commitment to Soldiers’ Welfare through Strategic Investments

Maj. Gen. Don Nabasa, Commander of the 3 Infantry Division of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), has commended Wazalendo for its dedication to enhancing soldiers’ welfare through effective policies and investment strategies.

He made these remarks on September 5, 2024, during a recent monitoring and evaluation exercise in Eastern Uganda, where he emphasized the alignment of these initiatives with the institution’s strategic vision.

“I commend you for developing impactful policies and investment options aimed at improving soldiers’ welfare, in line with our entrepreneurship and prosperity agenda,” Gen. Nabasa said.

Lt Col Allan Kitanda, Vice Chairman of the BoD, highlighted the significance of feedback regarding the effectiveness of loan services.

“These insights gathered from members of the 3 Division show how these loan products are being utilized to bolster their welfare and household incomes,” Lt.Col. Kitanda said.

Lt Col Kitanda also extended his gratitude to the leadership of both the 3 Division and UPDF for prioritizing welfare initiatives.

The evaluation exercise showcased several outstanding project managers, including Col. James Barigye Rukundo from Moroto, who successfully managed a flock of over 250 turkeys, and Staff Sergeant Lomoyang Joseph, also from Moroto, known for his thriving piggery operation with 48 pigs.

Col. David Byaruhanga from Kotido received recognition for his impressive management of over 250 acres of sorghum, while Staff Sergeant Dhikusoka Musanoni from Soroti excelled in producing charcoal briquettes, school chalk, and books.

Additionally, Eilu Caroline from Soroti demonstrated remarkable skills across various sectors, including apiary, goat farming, piggery, poultry, and block-making, further highlighting the diverse talents within the ranks of UPDF personnel.
