Vipers FC Drops 8 Players from Squad

Vipers SC, champions of the Uganda Premier League, have booted out eight players from their squad, according to an official statement from the club. The causes of these departures range from performance, contract expiration, and injury.

“We can confirm the departures of the following players from the club. We thank them for their time with the club and wish them the very best in the future,” said the Vipers in an official statement.

Disan Galiwango

The club said in the statement, “Eight players: Disan Galiwango, Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye, Ibrahim Orit, Bashir Asiku, Musa Ssali, Olivier Osomba, Garcia Mpongo, and Serge Robert Mwenge have left the club.”

Some of the players have played a huge part in the first team, which saw the Kitende side bag a double of trophies this year.

One of the departing players, talented winger Ibrahim Orit, who joined the Venoms from Mbarara City FC at the start of the 2020–21 campaign, confirmed his departure via his Twitter handle.

Ibrahim Orit

“I say fond farewell to Vipers Sports Club, where I have for three seasons called home,” said Ibrahim Orit.

Congolese Serge Robert Mwenge did not make a single league appearance this season, while fellow national Olivier Osomba has faced multiple injuries this season, which have hampered his performance. Osomba is remembered for netting the decisive penalty that took Vipers SC to the group stages of the CAF Champions League against TP Mazembe in DR Congo.

Despite the departures, the Venoms are looking to secure fresh talent to fill the gaps. Among others, SC Villa defender Gift Fred, is rumored to be in talks with Vipers SC to see his signature secured.
