The Vice President (VP) Rt. Major Jesca Alupo has encouraged journalists to reinforce and collect momentum to transform Uganda.

She made the remarks while presiding over the opening of a six-day Uganda Journalists Association Symposium at Kyambogo University on February 7, 2023.

The Vice President encouraged journalists to join the government and other sectors to increase the focus on the socio-economic transformation and ensure development.

“Become good drivers and join other citizen and government in building a common goal of ensuring socio-economic transformation. Our focus should be to share information to help poor people in villages get out of poverty,” she said.

She cautioned journalists against segregation and hate speech. She said that they should not report on the basis of tribe, religion, region, and work, among others.

“Report messages that build and not messages that break to build unity in our country,” Maj. Alupo emphasized.

Her Excellency emphasized peace and security to ensure unity and development in Uganda. Journalism plays a big role in global penetration.

She also asked the reporters to help the economy by using government programs like the Parish Development Model.

The 2023 theme of the UJA symposium is building “Socio-Economic Transformation’ for Journalists.
