The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has issued a strong warning to the public against spreading malicious, harmful propaganda on social media.
In a statement released by Major Charles Kabona, the UPDF 1 Division Public Relations Officer, he urged citizens to remain vigilant and to ignore this fake news and always verify information from official channels before spreading or sharing the news.
This is in light of reports that emerged primarily in Arabic dialect, alleging that a group claiming to be ISCAP killed 10 UPDF soldiers on Friday night in Kayunga District.
The UPDF has categorically dismissed these claims as baseless and malicious, emphasizing that they are the work of negative elements attempting to instill fear among the populace.
“There is nothing like the killing of soldiers in Kayunga. The area is peaceful, and the members of the public are going about their economic activities and enjoying stability.” Maj Kabona said.
He highlighted the importance of verifying information before sharing it, particularly in an era where social media can rapidly disseminate misleading narratives.
“Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious or harmful propaganda to local authorities to help combat misinformation and promote community safety,” he added.
The UPDF reassures the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region and for further updates and accurate information, the UPDF encourages the public to follow official communication channels.
