UPDF Soldier Fatally Beats Wife, Shoots 4, Kills 3 in Kotido

Private Lokidi Peter of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has shot four people, killing three and injuring one other in Nakapelimoru, Kotido district.

According to authorities, Lokidi beat his wife on Thursday evening, who succumbed to her wounds today, Friday, September 22nd.

“Last night Lokidi got into a misunderstanding with his wife, whom he beat up so badly. Acen, who was pregnant, was referred to Kotido general hospital this morning, where she later died,” authorities stated.

Sergent Anthony Michael, the OC in command of Nakapelimoru police, summoned Lokidi on the morning of Friday, 22nd, and managed to make him report to police.

“When the OC came to the trading centre to buy airtime to call Lokidi’s supervisor in order to get a psychological report on him, Lokidi sneaked into the OC’s house, stealing his rifle and starting to shoot people who were around the police station,” stated authorities.

Lokidi shot and instantly killed 37-year-old Lojar Peter, the LC of Longere village, Nakapelimoru Sub County, outside the station. He then proceeded to the Lotakau trading centre, where he shot another man, who also died instantly.

“Lokidi then shot Daniel, a boda boda rider who was carrying a passenger on his left upper shoulder. Daniel was rushed to Nakapelimoru Health Centre III for first aid and later referred to Kotido Hospital,” authorities said.

He then shot another man, who was rushed to Kotido Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Lokidi, a son of Lomongin, a resident of Nakapelimoru Sub County, was working with the second division on the 307 brigade of the 23rd battalion and was on leave from Somalia.

He is currently being detained at 405 Brigade in Nakapelimoru Sub-County as investigations are still ongoing.
