UPDF Declares Tactical Security Deployment During 2024 Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon

The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) announced a strategic security deployment to protect participants of the forthcoming 2024 Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon.

The event is slated for Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Stanley Street, Kasese, and participants from 32 countries are expected to take part.

On Thursday, August 22, 2024, the Uganda People’s Defense Forces confirmed that they will take over every security management to ensure the safety of participants.

Brig. Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF spokesperson, said security will be given to everyone since every place will have officers positioned.

“We kindly ask for cooperation from all attendees. If you notice anything suspicious or concerning, please report it immediately to the nearest security personnel or UPDF officers, who will be stationed throughout the event and ready to address any concerns,” said Kulayigye.

The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon which was initiated in 2022 celebrates resilience, determination, and unity among participants from diverse backgrounds.

The event has promoted health, supported athletes, and raised environmental awareness.

This year’s edition introduces a new 10km route, complementing the existing 5km, 21km, and 42km courses.
