The Uganda National Road Authority (UNRA) has temporarily halted the operation of the Masindi Port Ferry after detecting a mechanical breakdown.

In a circular released on Monday, August 19, UNRA announced that the ferry which connects Kiryandongo and Apac Districts through the Masindi Port-Kungu route experienced mechanical defects that required urgent attention and repairs.

The decision to temporarily halt operation is intended to enable the technical team to assess the defects and undertake necessary repairs.

“To guarantee safe operations, we have suspended the ferry operation with immediate effects to enable our technical team to assess the defects and undertake the necessary repairs. We will advise on when the ferry will resume operation in due course,” read part of the statement.

UNRA recommended Masindi-Murchison Falls National Park-Pakwach-Gulu or Kampala-Mbale-Soroti-Dokolo-Lira-Apac as alternative routes for users of the Masindi port ferry.
