The minister of state for Higher Education John C. Muyingo has officially released the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) today March 3, 2023. This took place in the conference hall at Office of the President.
He congratulated the candidates upon succeeding in their Examinations and encouraged those that did not make it, not to give up but try again this year.
However, in accordance with Section 4(3) of the UNEB Act, 2021, the board has withheld results of 113 candidates who are suspected for examination malpractice, and will accord the affected candidates a fair hearing before passing the final verdict.
According to the Executive Director of UNEB Mr. Dan Odongo, in terms of percentages, female candidates performed better than their male counterparts in general more so in Arts (Humanities), Mathematics and Physics. However, male candidates were better in Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, Art and General Paper.
“I wish to applaud the girls who have proportionately shown better performance than their male counterparts. This indicates that girls are just as capable as boys,” John C. Muyingo said.
He also addressed the issue of aabsenteeism of teachers, which continues to be the biggest challenge the education sector faces. He called upon head teachers and the Ministry of Education and Sports to carry out strict supervision of the culpable staff.
“The outlook of the results could have been better if our teachers were rendering the services within the approved and designated time,” he added.
The UNEB chairperson Prof Mary Okwakol said the performance of the candidates has improved especially at the upper level of candidates obtaining 3 Principal passes. At the other levels, the pass rates are comparable.
An analysis of the overall performance in the examination shows that a very high percentage of candidates (99.2%) qualified for the award compared to 2020.
