UK Indian community commends President Museveni for bolstering Unity

The Indian Community have commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for fostering unity amongst the Indian Community both in Uganda and those living in United Kingdom-UK.

This was during a special gathering held on Sunday at Anoopam Mission, Swaminarayan Temple in Denham in London to celebrate 50 years of friendship between Uganda and Asian Community.

H.E Nimisha Madhvani, the High Commissioner of Uganda to the UK, while addressing the Indian celebrants, commended President Museveni for the wise leadership that has remained steadfast in promoting unity amongst the community.

“President Museveni has reunited us here, for instance, I am a refugee but he has turned me into a High Commissioner,” She said.

Lord Dollar Popat, the UK Prime Minister’s trade envoy to Uganda thanked President Museveni for the good treatment of the Indians in Uganda.

“The friendship between Uganda and the Asian Community was producing about 240 Million pounds,” He said.

He added that the British government picked him to take charge of the trade in Uganda, Rwanda and DRC because of being a Ugandan.

“This is as well an effort by President Museveni for uniting the Asian Community,” Lord Dollar Popat said.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Gen. Abubaker Jeje Odongo who represented President Museveni at the event, appreciated Asian Community for maintaining faith in Uganda despite the 1972 disaster.

Gen. Odongo emphasized Uganda’s commitment in promoting trade, investments and co-existence with Asian communities in and outside the country.
