The UK High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Lisa Chesney, has expressed her pride in serving as the custodian of the longstanding historical relations between the United Kingdom and Uganda.
Chesney emphasized the importance of these ties and her commitment to fostering them further.
She made these remarks during a meeting held on Thursday evening November 14 2024 at the High Commissioner’s residence in Nakasero with the CDF of the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Having completed her first month in the role, Chesney described her reception in Uganda as the warmest welcome of her diplomatic career.
“The bilateral relationship is underpinned by various collaborative initiatives, particularly the training of Ugandan officers at the prestigious Sandhurst military academy.
Chesney extended her gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, a proud Sandhurst alumnus, for his participation in ensuring military cooperation between the two countries and strengthening ties between them.
The event was attended by an array of dignitaries, including government ministers, military officials, representatives from various embassies, and civil society leaders.
The UK and Uganda’s partnership is characterized by mutual cooperation, with the UK actively supporting Uganda’s development priorities in sectors ranging from education to security.
Chesney promised that as she embarks on her diplomatic journey, she will remain committed to enhancing this vital relationship, ensuring that it continues to thrive for the benefit of both nations.
