Ugandan sprinter Haron Adoli has won the XIX Reunion International Villa in Bilbao, Spain, with an impressive 45.59 seconds in the 400m race ahead of Hamza Dira of Morocco and Markel Fernandez Soto of Spain who clocked 45.79 and 46.25 seconds respectively.
Adoli took a significant step toward qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Adoli will now shift his focus to the upcoming 23rd edition of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Championship in Douala, Cameroon, scheduled to take place from June 21st to 26th, 2024.
He will be joining his teammates from Uganda Prisons Service Athletics Club, who were officially flagged off on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, by the National Council of Sports and Uganda Athletics Federation at the National Council of Sports offices.
Seven athletes from UPS have been selected to represent Uganda at the championship in Cameroon and they include;
– Chemutai Belinda (5000m)
– Chebet Esther (5000m)
– Aciru Knight (800m and 1500m)
– Okello Charles (Long Jump and Triple Jump)
– Dradriga Tom (800m)
– Torotich Elphas Ndiwa (3000m Steeplechase), and
– Haron Adoli (400m)
ASP Francis Demayi is the team’s coach.
At the international meet in Guadalajara, Madrid, Spain, Adoli finished third with a time of 45.67, behind Moroccan Diar (45.54) and Cuban Yoandys Lescay (45.60 seconds).
