Uganda to Host PAP in October 2023

Uganda will be hosting the next sitting of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) which is slated to take place from 10th to 21st October 2023. 

This was announced by the speaker of parliament Anita Annet Among at a meeting between President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the visiting president of PAP, Fortune Charumbira.

President Museveni expressed happiness after Uganda was chosen to host the next PAP sitting in October this year.

‘’I met H.E Senator Fortune Charumbira, President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) at State House, Entebbe.  I am happy that Uganda has been chosen to host the next sitting of PAP in October this year,’’ President twitted.

However, the President challenged the parliamentarians to build Unity among the people of Africa to solve the problem of prosperity and strategic security on the continent.

‘’Whilst they don’t have the sovereign powers to govern Africa, they do have the power of Advocacy which they should use to defeat the wrong ideology of parochialism,’’ President added.

The PAP was created as an organ of the African Union and is compounded of 275 members representing member countries of the African Union.

The speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly Joseph Ntakirutimanavowed that his administration will deliver on the long awaited creation of a single East Africa Community sovereign government whilemeeting with the speaker of parliament. 

The PAP was set up to ensure the full participation of African peoples in the economic development and integration of the continent

PAP is also intended as a platform for people from all African states to be involved in discussions and decision making on the problems and challenges facing the continent.
