Uganda to Host 7th Community Best Rehabilitation Africa Conference

Uganda is set to host the 7th Community Best Rehabilitation (CBR) Africa Conference to discuss critical issues affecting persons with disabilities and their families and communities.

The conference scheduled to take place from September 9th–13th, 2024, will be held at the Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel in Entebbe.

Hosted under the theme of “Advancing Community-Based Rehabilitation for a Disability-Inclusive Society,” the conference will provide a platform for dialogue to address critical issues affecting persons with disabilities and their families and communities.

Hellen Grace Asamo, the Minister of State for Disability Affairs, while addressing the media on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Uganda media center in Kampala, said the conference aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences related to policies, practices, and advancements in the CBR across various sectors and thematic areas.

She added that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will be the chief guest at the event.

“One of the objectives of this conference is to explore commonalities and distinctions on a regional scale with a particular emphasis on varying disabling factors to understand cultural and structural influences affecting persons with disabilities in different settings and circumstances,” Asamo stated.

The event also comes at a time when CBR is celebrating 46 years of enhancing the participation of persons with disabilities globally and 23 years of the CBR Africa Network (CAN) in promoting collaboration and information sharing across the continent.
