Uganda and Tanzania are going to meet in December to have talks on trade barriers affecting the flow of goods and investments between them.
The revelation was made yesterday at Ministry of Foreign affairs during the launch of Uganda Tanzania Business forum slated to start on 4th September in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking at the launch yesterday, the High commissioner of Tanzania to Uganda Aziz Mlima said that the two governments met a year ago to some trade barriers. “We are going to come up with more ideas on how to solve issues affecting our traders from carrying out smooth business,” he said.
The High Commissioner of Uganda to Tanzania confirmed the ongoing developments and also revealed that Uganda has started in investing in more water vessels on Lake Victoria to increase the number from the current two carrying out business with Tanzania.
The planned summit in December will be presided over by President Museveni and his counterpart Magufuli of Tanzania. The meeting will raise awareness on the investment opportunities and address hindering trade investment barriers. It will also hold a dialogue for interaction between countries.
Meanwhile, The proposed East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), running from mid-western Uganda to Tanga in Tanzania was expected to resume in June 2019, however officials from either side say preparations to resume are underway.
