The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, has pledged Uganda’s commitment to working with the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) since they share the same goal of promoting and protecting the rights of every child in Africa.
Hon. Barugahara this morning June 6, 2024, received the chairperson, members, and staff of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child at the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development (MGLSD).
“I wish to reaffirm the commitment of the government of Uganda to work closely with the African Committee to advance the ideals of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. Our collaboration with the Committee is rooted in a shared vision of promoting and protecting the rights of every child in Africa,” Barugahara said.
According to Barugahara, the team is here to commemorate the Day of the African Child scheduled for June 16, 2024, in Kiryandongo district.
“The day we celebrate and honor the courage and resilience of the children who stood up for their rights in the face of adversity,” he added.
He expressed his gratitude to the committee’s chairperson and the members for choosing Uganda as the host country for this important continental celebration.
“It is indeed an honor for Uganda to mark this occasion, and we are deeply appreciative of the trust and confidence bestowed upon us. Together, we will continue to advocate for policies and initiatives that prioritize education, health, protection, and empowerment for all children on our continent,” he stated.
ACERWC was established in 2001, with the primary goal of working toward making Africa a continent fit for children by protecting and respecting their rights.
