The opposition in Uganda has for decades acted insanely inhuman in the name of political activism and human rights defense. They do things that leave many Ugandans wondering if there is any government in the world that would tolerate such actions.
Their actions characterised with provoking security forces, causing chaos, contempt of court, causing violence, and attacking those with dissenting voices exhibit an exaggerated sense of self-importance. They show the world that human rights activism is all about violating other people’s rights to protect theirs as well as denying the majority who support the government their freedom and rights.
The opposition politicians and their lawyers choosing to assault and humiliate presiding officers in court premises and later try to play victims for media attention and sympathy seeking is not only hypocrisy but also emotional insensitivity and cheap politics. Would the same opposition tolerate such actions if, at all, they were the ones in power?
The truth of the matter is that there is no sitting government in the world that would tolerate such impunity. The saddest part is that the so-called Western democratic countries that are funding these groups in Africa would not tolerate such in their countries but instead fund these groups to destabilise their home countries, which in actual sense are more democratic than these Western hypocritical moral police.
The interesting part in all this is that most of these chaotic and violent so-called human rights activists do whatever they do for financial gains and visa expectations. Many have been granted asylum in the western countries based on false allegations of torture, homosexuality, and political prosecution. The majority of these people do whatever they do for selfish interests and would not tolerate the same if they were the ones in power.
It is absurd that the same groups are used to destabilise their countries, and definitely a few gullible citizens will believe their stunts. Those cheering them do not do it in good faith and would not allow their children to do or participate in the same. Uganda belongs to all Ugandans; there is no reason why the opposition should whatsoever think they are more important than other Ugandans.
It is time for Ugandans to unite against these wrong elements for the good of their country. The opposition needs to benchmark from the opposition in other countries and practice politics that build the country instead of destroying it,the government can be engaged with alternative policy proposals.
There should be a difference between hating the government in power and hating their own country; for now they are doing the latter instead. Ugandans wake up.
