Uganda National Meteorological Authority issues heavy rain alert in prone regions

The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) has forecast more rains in parts of south-western and central Uganda.

According to Abubakar Kalema, UNMA’s chief weather analyst, the rain fall forecast for the first 10 days of November shows a relaxation and reduction of rain activity in the entire Northern (West Nile, Acholi, Lango, and Karamoja sub-regions), Eastern, and Central regions, including the immediate proximity of Lake Victoria.

In contrast, the areas in south-western Kenya (Kigezi and Ankole sub-regions) and central-western Kenya (Tooro and Bunyoro sub-regions) are expected to experience wet conditions during the first ten days of this month.

Kalema said that parts of central Uganda should also expect to experience more rain and that the rest of the regions should expect drier conditions.

“As for temperature extremes, the forecast shows that the portion of the country stretching from Busia district through central up to Lake Albert and extending up to the north is expected to be warm, but with much warmer conditions in the West Nile and Acholi sub regions,” the statement read.

The forecast is consistent with earlier predictions in the seasonal weather forecast, also referred to as the September, October, November, and December outlook.

UNMA advised farmers to continue weeding their farmland and conserve water as drier conditions advance in Uganda.
