Ugandan team has continued to dominate the ongoing Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) games in Rwanda under the theme “Fostering police cooperation in fighting transnational organized crimes through sports.”
On Sunday Uganda netball team bagged gold medals after bulldozing her neighbor Rwanda 60-31.
According to Uganda police force, previously Uganda triumphed over Tanzania in a 61-46 win in a tightly contested game held at Rafick comporation in kigali-Rwanda.
In the half Marathon (21km) Uganda’s Janat Chemistu emerged the winner to claim Gold and in the shooting competitions Ugandan police men fetched gold either followed by Rwanda with silver and Tanzania with bronze.
Ugandan sports men and women humiliated their rivals as they continued to devour them in numerous sports disciplines Judo inclusive.
“In Judo, SPC Charles Mwagutshya and SPC Zubeda Talikazo fetched a gold medal each for Uganda either, “Police said.
Women officers could not hold back to defend their motherland Uganda as they stepped forward to win bronze in shooting after Tanzania police with silver and Rwanda police matched away with Gold for the first time.
The EAPCCO games strengthen Police cooperation in fighting transnational organized crime, promote talents of Police officers and enhance community policing among Police organizations by sharing the best practices and experiences.
The maiden EAPCCO games were held in 2017 in Uganda, Tanzania hosted the second edition in 2018 and the third edition was held in Kenya in 2019.
The fourth edition was supposed to be held in Rwanda in 2020 but it was suspended following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The EAPCCO, a regional police body with membership of 14 countries, aims at harmonizing, strengthening police co-operation and joint strategies, sharing of crime like information and harmonization of laws in order to enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies to combat transnational organized crime.
Participating countries were Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia and the host, Rwanda.
According to the organizers, the 13 sports disciplines played include football, handball, netball, volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball, athletics, darts, Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, boxing and shooting.
