Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Uganda Airlines has been elected the President of the Africa Airlines Association (AFRAA). The election follows the expiration of Air Senegal’s CEO, Mr. Alioune Badara Fall’s reign as president.
Bamuturaki’s presidency was announced during the 54th AFRAA CEO Airlines Annual General Assembly (AGA) that was held in Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday, 13th December 2022.
In her speech to the delegates, Bamuturaki thanked the AFRAA members for the opportunity to serve Africa and highlighted her main four priorities to be considered during her reign as the President of the Association.
“I pledge to cut the bureaucracy and red tape of regulatory regimes that impede intra-Africa connectivity, and create pathways for increased partnerships and collaboration within the continent to reduce the fragility of start-up airlines,” Bamuturaki stated.
Bamuturaki continued to say that she will support initiatives that promote sustainable operations of Airlines on the continent by taking bold steps to invest in research.
The Uganda Airlines CEO also pledged to lobby for open skies on the African continent.
“I will also advocate for open skies through fully operationalizing the Yamiussoukro declarations,” she said.
Bamuturaki’s position will put Uganda to a forefront towards developing the country’s Airlines and promotion of Tourism industry through her engagement with a number of stakeholders.
This responsibility also comes at a time when Airlines is preparing to hold the AFRAA summit in 2023, and a number of high profile delegates are expected to attend from across the world.
AFRAA is an organization that advocates for safe, secure, and reliable air transport in Africa. AFRAA also lobbies for reduced air transportation costs, connectivity and market access to increase revenue in Africa.
The assembly which ended on 13th December 2022, was attended by a number of stakeholders such as chairmen and CEOs from African Airlines, Civil aviation authorities, airport companies, air navigation services providers as well as aircraft and engine manufacturers, component suppliers and other service providers.
