UBOS Sets Dates for Release of 2024 Census Results:

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has set dates for the release of the just concluded National Housing and Population Census 2024.

According to the Census Commissioner, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, preliminary results of the Census 2024 will be disseminated on June 24, 2024, followed by provisional results, which will be released on September 24, 2024, and the final report on December 24, 2024.

Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Dr. Mukiza revealed the Bureau is to stick to the Census roadmap approved by President Museveni as it embarks on data processing, editing, and analysis of the raw data collected.

He further revealed that, by the close of enumeration on Sunday, May 26, 2024, overall coverage was 99%, and the missing out on 1% is attributed to residents in gates that were not accessible, working single household members, plus those that refused to be enumerated.

Mukiza commended the general public for the cooperation that enabled the exercise to be a success.

“UBOS would like to thank the general public for their cooperation and support, plus for responding with enthusiasm to the questions during the just concluded 2024 National Census,” he applauded, adding that the Bureau also expresses gratitude to all local government leaders for effectively spearheading Census activities from the district to village level, plus the enumerators and enumeration supervisors.

He also revealed that, in line with internationally accepted best practices, UBOS will conduct a Post-Enumeration Survey (PES) in July 2024 with the aim of validating the coverage and quality of data collected during the 2024 Census.

The just concluded exercise is Uganda’s first-ever digital census, which marks a significant step forward in the country’s quest for progress and development, and experts believe this will change the way demographic information is gathered, analyzed, and utilized for policymaking and planning.
