UAE Investor to Produce Gas in Uganda

Deepak Mehta, the United Arab Emirates investor, the Managing Director of Global Gases Group, has expressed interest in starting to produce gas in Uganda.

While meeting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday, January 27th, at State House Nakasero, Deepak announced plans to produce gas for hospitals as well as export to countries in the region and make biogas and fertilizer from cow dung.

The meeting follows the President’s three-day visit to the UAE, where he presented Uganda’s priorities during a meeting with investors in the UAE on January 16th , 2023.

Deepak told the president of his plans to use waste from cities and urban areas to make electricity.

The president welcomed him, adding that the manufacture of oxygen gas would go a long way in promoting import substitution and would also be exported to neighboring countries.

“It is an investment that will supply oxygen to hospitals, Some would be exported, which would help with import substitution,” Museveni explained

On waste management, the president observed that it would contribute to ensuring the cleanliness of the environment.

The meeting was attended by the State Minister for International Relations, Henry Oryem Okello; the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa; the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Francis Mwebesa; and the Minister of State for Investment, Anite Evelyn.

Deepak was also among many investors who met the president recently in Dubai during his visit to the UAE.

During the visit, Museveni met with the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the ruler of Abu Dhabi, where a number of issues were discussed.
