Two arrested for stealing 104 national identity cards deposited as collateral

On September 8, 2023, two individuals were apprehended for stealing 104 national identity cards and four million shillings. These items had been left as security deposits at a company office.

The suspects have been identified as Kwikiriza Evans and Rubogo Sam, both former employees of T.M.K loans service in Kanaba-Ndejje Busabala road.

According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Public Relations Officer of Kampala Metropolitan, it is alleged that on September 3, 2023, at approximately 7:30 pm, Kwikiriza Evans, a 22-year-old resident of Katuga East, Mitanda parish, Kiwunga subcounty, Ntugamo district, stole the 104 national identity cards and four million shillings. Evans had previously worked as a loans officer at the company.

This theft was orchestrated by Kwikiriza Evans and his accomplice, Rubogo Sam, who is also a former employee of the same company.

Acting on a tip-off, the flying squad of Kampala Metropolitan Police East, traced the suspects to Kanungu-Kihihi, where Kwikiriza Evans was apprehended with the stolen items in his travel bag.

At present, they are being held at Jinja Road Police Station while further investigations are underway.
