The transitional President of the Republic of Gabon, His Excellency, Brigadier General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, is set to visit Uganda from August 1–3, 2024.

Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement released on its official X handle stated, “The general public is informed that the transitional President of the Republic of Gabon will be in Uganda for an official visit.”

It should be recalled that General Nguema overthrew Ali Bongo Ondimba, 64, who had ruled Gabon since 2009, moments after he was proclaimed the winner in a presidential election in late August 2023. The election result was branded a fraud by the opposition and the military coup leaders, who had also accused his regime of widespread corruption and bad governance.

President Museveni and President Nguema are expected to discuss natural resources, infrastructure development, and sustainable agricultural development since both countries are rich in oil, timber, and minerals.
