TRAGEDY: 11 children killed in Mukono School fire

A total of 11 learners at Salama School for the Blind in Mukono have been confirmed dead after fire gutted a dormitory.

According to police, the fatal incident took place at around 1am and the cause is yet to be established.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said that they have kick started an investigation to ascertain the cause of fire that broke out at Salama school for the blind in Luga Village, Ntanzi parish , Ntejeru Kisoga town council in Mukono district .

According to police, 11 children have died as a result of the fire incident.

A total of six children remain in critical condition and admitted at Herona Hospital in Kisoga, according to police.

Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, described the incident as heartbreaking and traumatizing.

“The news that 11 children have perished in a school fire at Salama School for the Blind in Mukono is heartbreaking! Our sympathies go to the bereaved families, and we wish the injured a quick recovery. Parliament expects a proper investigation to get to the bottom of it! ” Speaker said
