Traffic Police Give Guidelines to Drivers As Schools Break-off

The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has given guidelines to be followed by all drivers as schools break for holidays today, May 3, 2023.

SSP Rogers Kawuma Nsereko, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Traffic Commander, has advised all drivers to adhere to road traffic rules and maintain discipline in order to avoid excessive congestion on major intersections and other major roads that lead to several schools.

“With most schools breaking off today, heavy traffic has been reported on major roads leading to various schools. We urge all drivers to observe road discipline to prevent unnecessary congestion at major intersections,” he said.

Nsereko urged road users to stay in their designated lanes and exercise a high level of patience as they wait for their turn to move.

In Uganda, it is the norm for traffic to cover major roads, especially in Kampala and Wakiso, whenever schools are breaking off for holidays or reporting back. This follows several people taking the learners who are not adhering to the road traffic rules, which may cause accidents.
