Police have arrested ten individuals suspected to be part of a criminal gang responsible for a series of crimes, including 15 aggravated robberies across Mityana and Kassanda districts.
The arrests that were made followed a police investigation into the gang’s activities, which reportedly took place between November 2024 and January 2025.
Rachel Kawala, the Wamala regional police spokesperson, announced the arrests during a press conference held in Mityana on January 8, 2025.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 25 years, are believed to have engaged in a range of criminal offenses, including violent assaults and theft.
According to Kawala, the suspects admitted to breaking into Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) offices located in Kanyogoga village within Sekanyonyi Town Council.
The criminals also confessed to brutally attacking a couple from Kalangalo Sub County, Sali Matayo and his wife, on January 3, 2025, during which they stole mobile phones and an undisclosed amount of money.
Tragically, both victims succumbed to their injuries following the incident, and police recovered some evidence related to this case.
In addition to the attack on Matayo and his wife, the suspects acknowledged their involvement in the robbery of another man identified as Kizito from Kalangalo, where they stole mobile phones.
The gang also confessed to robbing Munyakidi Dan of Kalangalo LC1 village of UGX 4.5 million in SACCO funds.
The police spokesperson emphasized that the gang’s activities extended beyond these incidents, as they were implicated in various house break-ins and theft cases throughout Mityana district.
The authorities are continuing their investigations to identify any additional suspects and ensure that all involved parties are brought to justice.
