Suspect Arrested for Killing a UPDF Officer, LC III Chairperson in Kotido

The joint security forces have arrested the killer of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) officer and the chairperson of local council III of Longaroe subcounty, Kotido district. The suspect identified as Modo John Apakori was apprehended following a successful joint security operation. He is currently being held in police custody and is awaiting trial. The motive for the killing is still being investigated.

According to Maj. Isaac Oware, PIO 3 Division, on July 2, 2023, the killer, who hails from Losilang village, north division of Kitodo municipality, shot dead Lt. Isaac Mayende and Lomuria Moses at the Longarore trading centre in Kotido district while the two deceased were having a brief meeting.

“After the criminal act, the suspect ran away with an SMG number of CP 3036 with 6 live rounds of ammunition from the deceased UPDF solider,” Oware said.

He added that the law-abiding neighbors of the suspect alerted the joint security forces, who responded quickly and led to the arrest of the suspect in Kacheri, Kotido District.

The suspect is under custody at 405 Infantry Brigade headquarters, pending a thorough investigation and interrogation.
