Speaker Among Sends MP Twaha Kagabo To Disciplinary Committee

Speaker of Uganda Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among has instructed the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline to investigate actions of National Unity Platform’s Twaha Kagabo.

While presiding over Parliament today, 9th August, 2022, Rt. Hon. Among tasked the committee to investigate the Bukoto South Member of Parliament.

According to the Speaker, Hon. Kagoba’s actions threaten the integrity of parliament.

“The actions of the member threaten the integrity of this House. I accordingly invoke Rule 175(1) (b) of the Rules of Procedure and refer the Member to the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline,” said the Speaker.

Hon. Twaha Kagabo, yesterday attempted to return Ugx.40 million that he alleges was a bribe to Members of Parliament to facilitate the passing of the supplementary budget.

However, the Speaker ordered a one months’ investigation into these claims.

“The Committee should investigate the Member’s conduct and report back within one (1) month,” she added.

Kagabo attempted to return the money to the Leader of Opposition (LOP), Mathias Mpuuga who declined to receive it and advised him to return the money to where he picked it from.

Kagabo said he received the money on his bank account from an unknown source and few days later he was told that the money was from an internal organization of Parliament.

According to the Bukoto South legislator, he wanted to return the money as a directive from the party President, who had instructed all NUP Members of Parliament to return it.
