Rogers Mubiru, an S.2 dropout and founder of Keveton Motion Engineering, has unveiled an impressive invention known as Bingwa (Champion), a multi-functional vehicle capable of transforming various aspects of rural life in Uganda.
Leading a team of self-trained innovators at the Kiira Motors Vehicle Plant in Jinja, Mubiru’s creation aims to enhance and promote the rollout of the Parish Development Model (PDM) project in the country.
Bingwa, a one-tonne three-wheeled vehicle, was officially launched by the President of Uganda, HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, en route to the celebration of Uganda’s 61st Independence celebrations held in Kitgum District. President Museveni commended the vehicle’s potential to contribute to a united and progressive nation, aligning well with the theme of the event, “Sustaining a United and Progressive Nation: Taking Charge of Our Future as a Free Nation.”
Designed with versatility, Bingwa can transport up to 1,000kg of goods, pump an impressive 6,000 liters of water per hour, and generate 6 kW of electricity hourly. The engine casting for this groundbreaking vehicle was completed at the renowned John Lugendo Foundry in Kampala.
Powered by an exceptionally fuel-efficient 0.8-liter two-stroke engine, Bingwa boasts a higher power-to-weight ratio compared to traditional four-stroke engines. It underwent incubation and construction at the Kiira Motors Vehicle Plant, showcasing the spirit of local innovation and expertise.
Bingwa provides a variety of practical applications that uplift livelihoods, benefiting farmers and rural households throughout Uganda. The ability to transport goods efficiently, pump water at a high capacity, and generate substantial electricity is valuable for supporting the economic development of the country.
