A clandestine move to remove Makindye West Division Member of Parliament Allan Sewanyana by the National Unity Platform Party (NUP Kunga) has gained momentum after approval by Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

On July 14, 2024, MP Ssewanyana was barred from addressing his constituents and attending a meeting organized by Bobi Wine’s brother, Fred Nyanzi, who serves as the Kunga National Mobilizer for the party.

The meeting was to launch the Kunga parish committees for Salama, Kibuye, Luwafu, and Katwe parishes at a function that took place in Luwafu Parish.

A source revealed that Nyanzi has always accused MP Ssewanyana of working to deliver NRM interests while he remains in the opposition.

The source revealed that the plot to remove Sewanyana and replace him with Zahara Luyirika, the Kampala City Council Speaker, was approved by the top leadership of the NUP during a secret meeting held last month and chaired by Robert Kyagulanyi himself.

This was after accusing him repeatedly, alongside others including MP Mathias Mpuuga and Mohamed Ssegirinya, of working for the ruling NRM party.

In the Makindye Kunga meeting, fighting broke out between the supporters of MP Sewanyana and Fred Nyanzi after the former was denied a chance to address his constituents.

Kunga is being used by Bobi Wine and his family to fight all NUP politicians who disagree with them, and they have since launched a clandestine move to remove all of them from leadership in 2026.

At the start of 2024, Nyanzi started his Kunga activities in Masaka, where it was later found out that he was handpicking mobilizers to form a parallel team to fight MP Mpuuga.

The Masaka Kunga activities were later stopped by the Masaka NUP administration, headed by Mathias Mpuuga, amidst exchanges and disagreements.

The selected parish Kunga teams are put in place to uproot Sewanyana, and according to the source, Bobi Wine has tasked Nyanzi to deliver this mission uninterruptedly.

The internal fights in the NUP are not about to end since many MPs have expressed dissatisfaction with Bobi Wine’s modus operandi, which depicts a bleak future for the leading opposition party.
